I'm a graphic design student and I'm currently working for my thesis project, I want to explore the images of different cultures, how they are represented through stamps. For that I'm looking for collaborations, people who love trading letters, or are just exited to share about their culture.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
I'm looking for stamps, stamps that tell a story, either from your country, your culture, or even a personal story. Yes, you have to actually send me the stamp. But if a stamp is too dear for you to send or you don't have it with you anymore. A good quality print of it would can work too.
KEYS:
Since I will be receiving plenty of letters, I decided to implement a system to keep track of them. Keys should be placed on the closing tab of an envelope OR at the left corner of postcard.
Use this key if you don't mind if i share your name
In my final project/thesis i might share little quotes your from letters, you will remain anonymous and your name would not be shared in any way unless you put in this key.
Use this key if you want me to answer your letter
I might get too many to get back to all of your letters so knowing who is expecting an answer is really helpful to me. (i can send you stamps back ofc!)
Use this key if you paid an special delivery or stamp.
When replying to letters i will give extra priority to people that took extra money out of their pockets so i can return them the favor! I appreciate your enthusiasm.
Use this key if you want future updates on my project sent to you in letter form
QUESTIONS:
How does the mail system work in your country?
How can you buy stamps? (Online or in person? Directly from the post office or somewhere else?) How easy/hard is to send a letter? Is there something you would like to change about the way your mail system works?
What does your (chosen stamp) represent?
Tell me about your culture, how these images are related to you and what they represent. I'm interested in learning the not-mainstream symbols of culture around the world through stamps, something so niche that only someone who lives there can tell me about.
¿What do you think about the visual style of the stamp?
Some stamps are illustrated, some are photographed, some even have renowned artists to make them. Tell me about the style of this stamp and what do you think of the chosen style for it? Is it meaningful to you?
information usage:
All the specific addresses from the people that participate will remain confidential, I might share your country, and maybe your name if you so choose so (by adding a key, explained above!).
I can use any of the stories told through the letters in my final project, either by paraphrasing it or direct quoting, and they will always be credited (even if you prefer to stay anonymous)
Currently my project has a topic but no actual form to showcase said topic. So, i might just use images, or just letters, or maybe both or maybe either. Thats why you can opt to follow my project so you can see how your submissions will be used.
SEND YOUR LETTERS TO THIS ADRESS:
Apartado postal Nº8, Oficina Suc, Nueva Tobalaba, Providencia.
